Machu Picchu Before It Became a Global Wonder
Machu Picchu is now one of the world’s most photographed ancient sites, with carefully maintained paths and visitors from everywhere. But when it was first widely introduced to the modern world, it looked much wilder and more mysterious. Stone terraces were partly covered by vegetation, mist wrapped around the mountains, and the ruins felt hidden inside nature. This older view makes the site feel less like a tourist destination and more like a forgotten place being discovered again. The atmosphere is powerful and almost unreal.
