Love Locks Became Too Heavy
Paris may be romantic, but even romance has weight. Couples once attached thousands of padlocks to the Pont des Arts bridge as symbols of love. It looked sweet in photos, but the locks became a serious structural problem. In 2015, Paris removed over a million love locks from the bridge, weighing around 45 tonnes, because of safety concerns. The rule sounds anti-romantic until you understand the risk. A bridge is built for people to cross, not to carry endless metal souvenirs. Love may be light in poetry, but in real life, a million padlocks are very heavy.
